Updated: Apr 10

located in Brissac-Quince, France

The Chateau de Brissac is the tallest castle in France. Its seven floors home 204 rooms within the castle, now used as a tourist site and stay. This beautiful site and marvulous structure wasnt always so staggering. The Chateau de Brissac now became the talk of the world and a paranormal favorite story. Also, known as "the haunting of la dame verte", also known as "the green lady" or "the lady in green".

A tragic story of the 14th-15th century murder of Charolette de Valois, whom was later known as Charolette de Breze due to an arranged marriage. Charolette was born in September of 1446. Her mother Agnes Sorel (the mistress) of Father King charles VII wasn't the only women taking part in Charolettes life. Queen Marie of Anjou, whom was indeed King Charles VII's wife was highly favourited by Charolette. History informs us that charolette had three other siblings Marie de Valois (1444-1473), Jeanne de Valois (1448-1467) and half sibling King Louis XI of France (1461-1483).

Charolette was arranged to marry a nobbleman at the age of 16 by the name of Jacques de Breze (1440-1494). They were made to not actually be in love which lead to a betrayal of the marriage arrangement. Jacques and Charolette married march 1st, 1442. Shortly after they couple procreated five children; Louise de Breze (1463-1531), Gaston de Breze (1467-1543), Anne de Breze, Jean de Breze, Catherine de Breze. What more can a gentleman want? He had a wife, children, a home as beautiful as it was Jacques life was about to take a turn and destroy everything he had.

Charolette de Breze a sophisticated women whom was forced into an arranged loveless and distressed marriage, needed more. Despite what she could lose and unknowingly what her husband would think she became rather close with his huntsman Pierre de Lavergne. Often engaging with the man she had fallen in love with while her husband was gone. Jacques de Breze had no knowledge of this betrayal until his return on May 31st 1477.

After dinning with his wife Charolette de Breze, Jacques resumed to his slumbers. Its stated they didnt even share a room then. Only to be alerted by the servants that his wife was having an affair in the chapel tower where she resides in her slumber. Storming with rage Jacques de Breze encountered his wife Charolette de Breze and her lover Pierre de Lavergne's involvment with each other. Without a second thought Jacques de Breze murdered both Charolette and Pierre with his sword midnight of 1477. Its unknowing if it was before midnight of may 31st 1477 or after on june 1st 1477, but either way Jacques de breze was arrested and sentenced to death. Which pardoned (possibly due to noble status),penitrated into a fine ruining Jacques de Breze financially.

Although he was fined for their murders, I dont believe Charolette is resting easy. Charolette was buried in Coulombs, a commune in the Eure-et-loir department in Northern France. Shortly after the murder Jacques de Breze was reported of leaving the castle due to the haunting of his late wife amd lover. She has been spotted within the chapel tower and heard by many. The early morning moaning and groaning and appearing around the castle in her green dress, hinting the given name of her haunting.

With many disbelieving she is at rest, Charolette de Breze is appeared to be searching for her lover Pierre de Laveragne. But, what people preceive of her has them shaking in their boots. A women with a corpse like appearance, gaping holes in her eyes and where her nose should be still today encourages intrest around the world. A women whom sends off the icy chills along with the feelings of being watched and her sounds heard are not the only proof that something is there. I hope to one day visit this lovely place and learn more on her story along with the research of existance beyond our life.
